Estancia de Lorenzo

A farm. An event’s venue. A staycation place.

Estancia de Lorenzo in San Mateo, Rizal is a great family destination that is not that far from Manila. It is less than an hour away from Philcoa or Katipunan on a weekend without the horrendous traffic. Since summer is already fast approaching, the place is a good alternative to the beach, which is often swarming with people during this most anticipated time of the year.

The five hectare farm resort is owned by the family of Dr. Eulalio “Ayong” and Marietta Lorenzo. It used to be just their home and a game fowl farm since Dr. Ayong is a veterinarian and businessman, and has been actively involved in the production of animal vaccines and animal breeding. Perhaps while Dr. Ayong was busy tending to his roosters, Marietta saw the vast potential of their place and suggested they turn it into an eco-tourist spot. Her idea was supported by the family, including their children who now help in running the resort.

My plan was simply to take a respite from the city and run a Black Mirror marathon. Be lazy in short. But there were just so many in store at EDL that I entirely forgot to be languid.

EDL has a big pavilion and ample spaces to hold special and momentous events such as weddings, birthdays and reunions, as well as company bondings and conferences.

Their standard and prime villas good for couple, family and corporate groups, are modern and green-inspired. They utilize glass panelled windows so natural light comes in, and use solar-hybrid air conditioning units which run primarily on solar power. They are also surrounded by beautiful landscaped garden.

Checked-in guests have free complimentary breakfast served at Lorenzo’s Farm to Table Restaurant. The all-day breakfast restaurant serves sumptuous home-made organic, farm-to-table food, and also sells gourmet tuyo and Spanish sardines.

The Farmyard is another restaurant and sports night bar which offers appetizing seafood pizza, pasta, and drinks.

It is already given that sabongeros will revere the place. But children and young at heart will definitely love EDL for its mini zoo, aviary and crocodile farm.

As for me, I enjoyed the morning show of the lovebirds. Their non-stop kissing affirm that lovebirds are among the most intimate creatures in the planet. Their tender affection towards each other also reminded me of this bittersweet song “Lahat malilimot mo ngunit hindi ang iyong unang halik…”

Their swimming pool is an oasis on a hot, summer day.

After a tiring but interesting day, it’s nice mag muni-muni on the roofdeck, while taking in the fresh mountain air, and the beautiful, picturesque landscape of Sierra Madre.

Isn’t it nice and necessary to always make space in our life for the inevitable arrival of what we want?

When the night comes, EDL glows exquisitely in the dark.

But prior to that, I got to witness the gorgeous San Mateo sunset slowly disappearing to the Quezon City skyline.

I love how it remove itself from people’s lives, silently and gracefully.

From Philcoa or Katipunan, take San Mateo or Maly jeepney and get off at Mercury Drugstore in Ampid. There are tricycles available beside Mercury that go inside EDL.
