Calaguas

There are moments in life that a still camera can’t perfectly capture. Like the way I lie on the sand watching two fireflies dance above a tree and beneath countless stars that seem to shine only for me. They say decisions are the hardest thing to make especially when it’s a choice between where you ought to be and where you long to be. But I know in my heart, I’ll choose Calaguas anytime. – 19.45, 04.21.2011.

How to go to Calaguas (the backpacker’s way and tipid tips):
1. 7-9 hour bus ride from Manila – Daet (better leave Manila at 9 or 10 pm). Get off at Talobatib junction, town of Labo – the way to Paracale. Fare ranges from P450 - P700.
2. 1 hour bus ride from Talobatib to Paracale. Fare P25.
3. Hire boat at the fish port (or you may contact Ate Lorna or Lalay at 09285842052. They’re charging 3K for a two way boat ride, maximum of 6 pax; they also have a bigger banca that can accommodate more than 10 pax at a much higher price). Be prepared for the 1-2 hour boat ride. Big bad waves will welcome and keep you company. To quote kuya bangkero Malambot ang tubig pero matibay na kaaway.
4. Don’t forget to bring tent, food and yourself. There’s a poso and CR in the island. Just pay P10 everytime you take a banlaw. There’s a sari-sari store. No cellphone signal. No electricity. But some tour groups have generators for the convenience of their guests. Camping fee is P100 per pax.
6. Go now! Go! Now!
