New Modern Farmhouse, Southern Charm at SOMA, BGC

Somehow, I was reminded of these quotes when I saw the six decorative world clocks of the New Modern Farmhouse with Southern Charm. The AirBnb studio unit of Superhosts Elvis and Marjun at South of Market Residences (SOMA), BGC, is neat, charming and elegant - simply an interior beauty to behold.

The farmhouse concept, inspired from homes built in farm setting or agricultural area in 1700s by early colonial families in Northern America and Europe, may be relatively new in the Philippines. And the owners, who are both interior designers, nailed it thru their nest. They believe that in today's fast-paced city life, there is a need to slow don and get back to a simple southern type of lifestyle. Modern farmhouse mixes old and new, vintage and modern to create a warm, cozy, and personal character. The owners’ love for trendy and shabby chic style and décor, make New Modern Farmhouse an ultimate staycation place in the city.

The real surprise comes on the 40th floor of the building, where the Farmhouse is located.  It could accommodate maximum of 5 guests.

The first three things I noticed were the clocks, the 3D flame effect infrared quartz electric fireplace, and the personalized chalkboard welcoming guests. And there’s more – mineral water (with my name) on a bed of crystal stones, another warm welcome certificate, artificial flowers, and different light fixtures, including a repurposed metal baskets with crystals overhead bed lighting, and some LED back light.

Every inch of the 39 sq. meter unit was maximized, from the living room, bathroom, open concept of kitchen, to bedroom and dining area. A high end and queen size top mattress, is adorned with 2,000 thread count sheets and blanket with 4 hypoallergenic Ralph Lauren pillows. Sofa bed, throw pillows, rugs, carpets, and other soft furnishes are stylish and complementing the rustic wooden style cabinets, shelves and tabletop. Hexagon white tiles and mini dark gray mosaic tiles in the bathroom make a nice accent wall embellished with rhinestone. The amenities are great – fast wi-fi, Smart TV with Netflix that rotate 360 degrees and can be viewed from bedroom or living room, refrigerator, ceramic electric stove and oven, rice cooker, utensils, cookware and glass ware. I may be minimalist, but I also like the maximalist style of space.

It’s also a joy to find some sunny quotes within the unit like “Be the reason someone smiles today”, “The best is yet to come”, and “Live love and travel.”

Guests could also use condo amenities – the gym and pool.

And the views around the unit are also incredible – they partially overlook to Manila American Cemetery and the skyscrapers of BGC. 

Location wise, SOMA is just 5 minute walk to SM Aura or Market Market. The hosts are also very welcoming even if we only communicated online. In the artistic city jungle of BGC, the Farmhouse is indeed one of its few hidden gems.
