Lime and Basil, Alfonso

Herbs such as lime and basil are essential ingredients of many Thai dishes. They grow abundantly in a backyard garden of Lime and Basil, a well-known Thai-restaurant in a quiet, residential area in Alfonso, Cavite near Tagaytay.

Established in 2012 by couple Chefs Sigrid Sarmiento and Orvin Sayo, the restaurant offers a casual, relaxed Asian dining experience with a homey, rustic feel.  Guests have an option to dine in the main house dining area or al fresco under a giant purple tent. They can also tour and walk around Songkran Edible Garden located behind the restaurant. They grow kaffir leaves, which give distinct flavour to tom yam, a favorite Thai dish of mine.

Since I love anything spicy, Lime and Basil became an instant favorite. On weekends, reservation is a must especially when dining during peak hours.

From Manila, take Nasugbu or Alfonso bound bus from Lawton, Buendia or South Terminal in Pasay. Get off at El Renzo Hotel (or Residence Inn/Zoori). From the highway, enter Sikat Rd. (right across El Renzo); it’s a 5-10 minute walk going to Lime and Basil.
