Heroes Hotel Manila

It is not a top secret hotel where superheroes come to unwind after a long, hard day saving the world; but it is the first superhero-themed hotel in the Philippines, where ordinary people could relax and meet up close some of the world’s famous heroes and heroines.

Heroes Hotel, which just opened in August 2017, gives tribute to superheroes and real extraordinary people who have made this world a better place to live in. It’s hip, exciting with lively, millennial vibe. And I like their tagline “There’s always a hero’s welcome for you.”

A S.H.I.E.L.D. emblem on the floor caught my attention when I entered. It feels like I was on a mission, summoned by a covert special law-enforcement agency.

Aside from the friendly and welcoming staff, a life-size Iron Man welcomes guests by the reception. Upon closer look, it bears the name “Iron Mannie”. It was named after Mannie dela Serna, one of the owners who brilliantly conceptualized the hotel.

The lobby is filled with superhero memorabilia and items such as Captain America and Spartan shields, red telephone booth from Superman, Spider-Man mask 3D light, and R2D2 trash bin.

  

There’s a replica of John Lennon’s iconic white grand piano, and a bookshelf inspired from the “kariton classroom” of 2009 CNN hero Efren Peñaflorida, Jr.

The powder room is known as the Hobbit’s corner. How cute.

The elevator looks cool with artwork of Clark Kent about to transform into Superman.

The staircase wall is nicely covered with comic panels from Wonder Woman, Batman, Captain America and The Avengers.

The hotel has three types of room accommodation - deluxe, superior and backpackers – all with AC, TV, free-wifi, and private bathroom.

I stayed in a cozy deluxe “Gandhi” room. The room with a queen-size bed, honors Mohandas Gandhi, leader of the Indian independence movement against British rule, known for employing nonviolent civil disobedience, and inspiring movements for civil rights and freedom across the world. What I found interesting among the items in the room is the bronze Gandhi lampshade.

I also got a glimpse of the superior “Lisa Macuja” room and backpackers “Efren Penaflorida, Jr.” room. These rooms pay homage to modern-day Philippine heroes.

Another interesting feature of the hotel is its Honesty Café, an honor-system café similar to the Honesty Coffeeshop in Batanes. Nobody mans the café, so guests are entrusted to leave proper payment for wine, coffee, or food that they will consume.

The cafe is also adorned with pop culture art, including “The Creation of Avengers” and “Superheroes Last Supper” inspired from the famous paintings of Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci, respectively.

There is a rooftop restaurant - Jazz Up In The Sky & Sky Brew Café- for those who want a more sumptuous meal like pasta marinara or baby back ribs. Trust me, they're so appetizing.

The roofdeck also offers a panoramic view of Manila and Makati area.  

The great thing about Heroes Hotel is that it doesn’t just offer a place to relax and stay. As part of their corporate social responsibility, a portion of their revenue is earmarked for heroic deeds such as tree planting activities and building of classrooms in poor communities around the country.
