Mövenpick Cebu

Once in a while it’s nice to live the life of the rich and the famous. Pretend that life is always good, momentarily forget the harshness of the real world, and splurge in an upscale and 5-star beach front hotel like Mövenpick in Cebu.

Formerly Hilton Hotel, Mövenpick opened its doors to the public in 2012 after a P100+ million worth of massive renovation. It’s among the most aesthetically beautiful modern hotels and residences I’ve seen in the country, where guests could experience the true meaning of Swiss luxury with a touch of Filipino hospitality. According to Google's 2013 year-in-review search list, Mövenpick is the second most Googled destination in the Philippines.

I was really amazed with the futuristic-inspired reception area, especially with the capsule-like tables.

The grand lobby looks like an elegant bare carnival. The motif is predominantly white, complemented by happy pastel colors. The communal powder room is also a soothing eye-candy green.

The hotel takes pride in its 245 elegant guest rooms and suites, some overlooking Hilutungan Channel. Enjoy pampering and sweet dreams in this chic deluxe ocean front. Even the toiletries come in signature brand Chopard.

Play billiards, chess, Xbox Kinect or foosball in their open-air game room, or simply enjoy exhilarating outdoor water sports activities like parasailing.

Or take a dip in the swimming pool, as clear and blue as the sky. What makes the pool interesting are the sunken chairs where swimmers can relax while being half submerged in the water.

The well-manicured beach garden makes a perfect backdrop for leisurely walks, yoga, and weddings.

Gustatory adventure awaits at the Sails Restaurant and Forum Lounge. Though a bit pricey, I enjoyed all the dishes from assorted warm bread, clam pasta to chocolate lava cake.

To experience total body wellness and holistic relaxation, head to Spa Delmar.

For guests who want to do sightseeing and city tour, the hotel offers a scheduled shuttle services with drop off points at SM and Ayala Mall.

But what sets Mövenpick apart from the hotels and resorts along the coastline of Mactan is its floating bar and party place Ibiza Beach Club, inspired from Spain’s beach party capital. Every night, Ibiza is pulsating with celebration of life, dance and music.

After sundown, the whole place comes alive in vibrant colors. Mövenpick is the hotel that never sleeps.

The Mövenpick experience takes rest and recreation on a whole new level. It is unparalleled, unforgettable, epic.

And although my whirlwind romance with the hotel only lasted for two days, I can say I’m happily Möven on.

Costabella Tropical Beach Resort

A Spanish term for beautiful coast, Costabella is a beachfront hotel and resort situated on the historic island of Mactan, Cebu.

It was opened in 1981 by a couple named Sitoy and Ditas Alvarez. Starting with only 16 rooms, the resort has expanded through the years, and has grown exquisitely like its garden and coconut palms. It now has more than 150 rooms, with great facilities ranging from swimming pools, spa to restaurants. And true to its name, the resort really offers a scenic coastal view.

Never think of all the misery, but of the beauty that still remains.

Costabella is one of those beauties.
