Shanghai National Accounting Institute

You don’t always get what you wish for. You get what you work for.

Despite not having seen the Bund, I was still able to appreciate and enjoy the scholarly discussion among labour migration experts during an RTD on Labour Migration in Asia organized by the Asian Development Bank Institute in Shanghai. Plus I get to bond with my boss.

With the freezing weather, buffet cafeteria food from morning ’til night, a big room all to myself, and the thought that I’m far away from piles of paper work on my desk, somehow, nakaka-miss being in the biggest country in the world.

Palm Beach Resort

Palm Beach Resort (formerly La Frondosa) in San Juan, Batangas was originally a family vacation house that expanded into an expansive boutique beach resort. Located in a cove, right after the main beach strip of Laiya (where the beach parties are), the resort promises its guests a private retreat and seclusion.

This resort was the venue of our office’s 2014 teambuilding activity. The whole place and its amenities, including the buffet food are really quite impressive.  Even the surrounding coves and rock formations are gorgeous and breathtaking.

This year’s teambuilding activity is a memorable one – a laro sa baga incident that led to more casualties and drama. But what’s important is admitting mistake and saying sorry is an act of courage. I look up to people who gave much more importance to the feelings of others rather than their own, and most especially to those who understand and can easily forgive. They are the ones who really care, who are in still in touch with their humanity. And it’s surprising that most of my colleagues possess these rare qualities. I’m glad to say that some of them are my friends.

And friends are chosen family.

Into the Wilderness: Paracelis, Natonin, Barlig

“Taking time to live life will only inspire your work.”

I got the hardship post for our annual community education program on migration for this year – the Cordillera Region. It’s a one-week seminar where we visit local communities to educate them about the programs and services of our office and Filipino migration in general.

Though I have been to Mountain Province before, it was my first time to set foot on its eastern side where the contiguous municipalities of Paracelis, Natonin and Barlig could be found. These areas which could be reached via jeepney or mini bus from Bontoc or Santiago, are often overlooked by tourists who usually go to Sagada.

Despite being dubbed as the less traveled or neglected part of Mountain Province due to its mostly unpaved road, I found myself enjoying its panoramic sceneries - rugged, raw beauty of mountains, pine trees, and rice terraces.

At kahit muntik na kami ma-trap sa Natonin due to landslide, sa totoo lang we wouldn’t mind. It’s nice to get away from civilization once in a while.
