Pineapple Septuplet

"There is no exquisite beauty without some strangeness in the proportion."
- Edgar Allan Poe

Panagbenga

It’s raining flowers during the month of love in Baguio City, Philippines’ summer capital.

A Kankanaey term for "a season of blooming," Panagbenga is a festival as colorful and as fragrant as newly-bloomed rose. Every February, thousands of tourists flock to Baguio to witness the refreshing floral and float parades. The festival started in 1995 for the residents to help forget the devastating 1990 earthquake that almost destroyed the city and claimed the lives of many.

Illusory

This is the place where I first met her.
Wherever she is now,
whoever she is with,
I hope that she already
found her true happiness.
She broke my heart…
but loving her saved my life.

A High School Scrapbook on Friendship

Love is like the wild-rose briar;
Friendship is like the holly-tree.
The holly is dark when the rose briar blooms,
But which will bloom most constantly?
- Emily Brontë

I don’t often say it, but I’m glad they’re my friends. As they say, a friend knows everything about you and loves you just the same, no matter what. Guess I have to agree. Almost.

My constant partner in crime since our CAT days,
and the only friend I could feel at home with, even in silence.

Gallant and humble.
A big boy with a big, big heart.

A turtle who once said I'm a box of chocolates.
Scheming brat just like me hehe.

She could be bitchy at times, but she bravely stepped
into a dirty canal to handpick snails for our science investigatory project.

She’s a saint, and she won’t cheat if she could help it.

The devil incarnate who cheats along with us but rarely shares his answers, especially in Chem. It’s very selfish, but it’s his very essence.

I Left my Heart in San Francisco

The chilliest winter I ever spent was the first day of summer in San Francisco.

There are no shortcuts to love

The Philippine’s Most Famous Cross

Famous Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan was killed by a fearless Filipino almost 500 years ago. But he left one holy and tangible legacy in the island where he risked his own life.

In 1521, Magellan planted a huge Christian cross in Sugbu (now Cebu) to celebrate the baptism into the Roman Catholic religion of island chief Rajah Humabon and his followers. The cross now stands at a small chapel located across Cebu City Hall and along Magallanes St., the street named after Magellan (Magallanes being the Spanish translation of the Portuguese explorer’s name).

A sign below the cross says the original Magellan’s Cross is encased in the tindalo wood cross displayed in the center of the chapel. This is to protect it from people who chipped away parts of the cross believing it has miraculous powers or as souvenirs.

The cross is now a popular tourist attraction and serves as the iconic symbol of Cebu.

My Mother’s Day Roses

Dear Mom,

There were times I wish
I haven’t been so engrossed with my world
long enough to wonder about yours…
Still, I love you.
Always.

More Personal than an Epistle

Children are the living post mails
we send to a time we will never see.
